Juliana 2
“We suffered a lot. The market was gone, and for a month, I could not sell anything.”

Biography

Juliana is a veteran market trader who spent her life selling goods by the river in Mepe. She embodies the struggles of small traders whose livelihoods disappeared overnight.

Before the flood

Juliana sold food items and small goods at the riverside market. Business was consistent, and she was financially independent.

During the flood

The flood destroyed the market entirely. Juliana lost all her goods and income. For about one month, trading was impossible, and the community faced severe hardship.

After the flood

She noted that some help came from NGOs, local chiefs, and MDAs, but she personally received nothing from the government. Survival depended on community donations.

Thought's about the future

Juliana wishes for financial assistance to restart her business. She fears that without support, older women like her will not recover their livelihoods.
